Federation of Asian Chemical Societies

The Federation of Asian Chemical Societies (FACS) is a federation of 30 chemical societies from 29 countries and territories in the Asia Pacific whose membership consists of individual qualified chemists. SNIC is one of the member societies of FACS.  The general objective of the Federation is to promote the advancement and appreciation of chemistry and the interests of professional chemists in the Asia Pacific.  One of the major activity of FACS is to organise the Asian Chemical Congress (ACC) which is held once every two years.  In August 2013, ACC returned to Singapore held at Resorts World Sentosa after over 30 years since the first ACC was held in 1981.  The conference featured the history of ACC, the pioneers from Asia and the Asian rising stars in the field of chemical sciences.

Federation of Aisan Chemical Societies (FACS) has recently held their general assembly at Taipei on 8 December 2019. Dr Dien Padiman who is our SNIC Council Member has been elected as the next FACS Executivie Committee.

Dr Dien Pandiman is currently the Executive Director - Chief Innovation Office of Pidilite Innovation Centre Pte. Ltd. and is responsible for the global applied research and product innovations of surface coatings and construction chemicals for Pidilite Group of Companies. He has more than 20-year experiences in these fields and his research interests are in the future and emerging applications of nano-materials in surface coatings and construction chemicals. He had developed many innovative products and successfully commercialised in the global markets. Prior to joining Pidilite Group, he worked for the independent testing laboratory and building and contruction and consultancy company. Setsco Service Pte. Ltd, as its cheief Chemist. Then he co-funded Chemson Asia Pte. Ltd. in 2002. which was acquired by Pidilite Industries Ltd. in 2005.

As the Chartered Chemist, Chartered Scientist, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC UK), Dr D. Pandiman was the elected Chairman of the RSC Singapore Section in 2008.and was the Vice-President of Singapore National Institute of Chemistry. He was elected and served as the Secretary-General of Federation of Asian Chemical Societies (FACS) for the period of 2013-2015. He has been selected as Executive Committee (EXCO) Member of FACS serving from 2019-2021.  

He is appointed as Member for Singapore IPI (IP Intermediary) Industry Advisory Panel for providing advices and inputs to IPI for Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2020 (RIE Planning under Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) of Singapore, as well as providing insights into business trends and technical challenges faced by Singapore-based companies. Recently, he is appointed by National Research Foundation (NRF) under Prime Minister Office, as Member of Proof-of-Concept (POC) Panelists for evaluating various proposed projects submitted to NRF POC Grant Calls. All these voluntary works and contributions are the way of giving back to my country, society and scientific communities around the world.
